PRACTICE EXPERIENCE

Charmaine is an experienced litigator who has handled complex local and cross-border disputes at all levels of the Singapore Courts. Charmaine also has considerable experience in alternative dispute resolution forums, namely, domestic and international arbitration, mediation (both court-regulated mediation and mediation at the Singapore Mediation Centre), and adjudication.

Charmaine’s practice involves dealing with a wide array of commercial disputes, including contractual, trust, construction, insurance, banking, copyright infringement, defamation, debt recovery, employment, international trade, joint-venture, shareholder, landlord and tenant, property, insolvency-related, and company-related disputes. Charmaine also has experience with handling claims under the recently enacted Protection from Harassment Act.

Some recent highlights of her practice include working on:-

•a cross-border dispute in the High Court involving Singapore, Hong Kong and Russian entities, and claims relating to breach of trust, breach of worldwide Mareva injunction orders, as well as the siphoning of funds through a complex multi-jurisdictional conspiracy;

•a complex shareholders’ dispute filed in the High Court, involving more than 10 defendants (both individuals and corporations), a renowned public-listed company and allegations of various multi-faceted sham transactions designed to conceal the round-tripping of significant sums of money; and

•a High Court dispute involving a company’s claim against 3 law firms for professional negligence regarding the manner in which the underlying lawsuit was conducted. The case also involved allegations of copyright infringement, forgery of documents, as well as cross-border legal issues such as the significance and/or enforceability of foreign judgments in Singapore.
